If you liked the 2014 model of the F-450 you are going to love the 2015 Ford F-450 Super Duty! Why? Well, because it offers the same level of quality, comfort and grunt as the old model with a few minor modifications to the engines and also with the help of a brand new trim level. With its best-in-class towing capacity and gross combined weight it will be more than competitive on the pickup truck market.
2015 Ford F-450 review
The outside of the car is unfortunately unchanged over the 2014 model. There are just a few minor cosmetic changes made to the headlights and the front bumper. The stock chrome grille has been kept while the rear part of the car is identical. Fortunately there will be a new set of rims that should make some people happy. The new 2015 Ford F-450 is only available as the crew cab 4×4. It is available in five trim levels: XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum.
Inside the cabin of the F-450 there are the usual equipment found in a heavy duty truck and also a bit extra. The base cloth upholstery is made out of a very tough material that can be easily cleaned, so you won’t have to worry too much about it. Standard equipment also includes a premium audio system, quite a good climate control system and also an 110V socket that will allow you to power up your equipment.
Ford F-450 diesel 2015 specs
Unlike the previous model now there is only one engine, and it is diesel. So, under the hood of the 2015 Ford F450 Super Duty pickup truck is 6.7 liter Powerstroke V8. With new turbocharger it will get a power boost to around 440 horsepower and more than 860 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with reliable TorqShift 6-speed SelectShift transmission.
The transmission will be the same 6 speed automatic but with a new torque converter that should allow it to withstand more power from those engines without failing. On the base model, all of the power goes to the rear wheels but with a bit extra money you will be able to get the four wheel drive system with lockable front, rear and center differentials that make for a really good off-roader!
The chassis has been reinforced and also lightened by a small margin to improve the handling and the towing capabilities. Also on the chassis there have been made changes to the front and rear suspension as well as to most of the car’s joints. This will help the 2015 F-450 facing the test of time without too much trouble.
2015 Ford F-450 towing capacity
With this drivertrain 2015 Ford F-450 towing capacity is rated at 31,200 pounds, which is the best-in-class towing capacity. This tow rating is 2,200 pounds higher than its nearest competitor’s crew cab 4×4 pickup. The payload is also respectable. Depending on the chosen trim level it goes from 5,450 to 5,300 pounds. The new F450 pickup truck has best-in-class gross weight. It is 2,500 pounds higher than its closest competitor and it is 40,400 pounds.
Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, said: “We leave no doubt with customers that the F-450 pickup truck has best-in-class towing of 31,200 pounds – whether tested using our own internal towing standards or SAE J2807.”
